Professor Wonjae Shin from Korea University School of Electrical Engineering has been selected as a researcher for the Samsung Future Technology Development Project for the second half of 2024, focusing on the research of 6G broadband low Earth orbit satellite communication technology.


With this selection, Professor Shin will conduct intensive research over the next three years on "Frequency-Dependent Beamforming Design for 6G Broadband Low Earth Orbit Satellite Communications," which is a key technology for securing global coverage of next-generation mobile communications.


This research is expected to produce world-class results by significantly improving the efficiency and performance of post-6G satellite communication systems through innovative efforts to overcome the limitations of phased array antennas for satellites.


The Samsung Future Technology Development Project is a public interest research support initiative aimed at advancing fundamental science in Korea, fostering industrial technology innovation, solving societal issues, and nurturing world-class scientists. Since 2013, Samsung Electronics has been funding this project with 1.5 trillion KRW, supporting creative frontier research in basic science, which is the foundation of science and technology, materials technology, which is the basis of manufacturing, and ICT and convergence fields, which lead industrial advancement and create new markets.
