Dr. Youngwook Kwon, a member of the Advanced Integrated Systems Lab (AISL) led by Professor Chulwoo Kim at the School of Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering, Korea University, has joined Micron Technology, one of the leading semiconductor companies in the United States, as a Senior Engineer.
Micron Technology is a global leader in memory and storage solutions, pioneering innovations in DRAM and NAND Flash technologies that shape the global market. Dr. Kwon will work at Micron’s headquarters in Boise, Idaho, where he will serve as a key architect, optimizing the power, performance, and cost of next-generation DRAM and designing system-level solutions. Notably, this marks the first time Micron Technology has hired a fresh Ph.D. graduate from abroad directly into a core engineering role.
Dr. Kwon earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Korea University, where he conducted in-depth research on next-generation wired communication circuit design, including high-speed serial interfaces (SerDes) and high-bandwidth memory interfaces, under the guidance of Professor Chulwoo Kim. His work has been recognized through multiple publications in top-tier journals and conferences such as IEEE JSSC and ISSCC, as well as prestigious awards including the IEEE CASS Pre-doctoral Grant, the Samsung HumanTech Thesis Award, and prizes from the Semiconductor Design Contest, demonstrating his competitive edge in circuit design.
Additionally, through his experience as a visiting researcher at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), Dr. Kwon gained valuable insight into international collaborative research and strengthened his global perspective and technical expertise, which contributed to his successful placement at a major global company.
Dr. Youngwook Kwon’s statement:
"During my graduate studies, I was fortunate to receive unwavering support from Professor Chulwoo Kim and collaborate with my AISL lab colleagues, which helped me grow both technically and personally. I am truly delighted to join a global company based on this experience. Moving forward, I will do my utmost to contribute to both industry and academia in the fields of DRAM and memory interfaces. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my advisor and all my lab colleagues for their guidance and support."
