Gyu Seon Kim, an integrated M.S./Ph.D. student in the AI and Mobility Lab (Advisor: Professor Joongheon Kim) at the School of Electrical Engineering, Korea University, has been honored with the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Fellowship & Scholarship Awards.
The IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS), a professional society within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), is dedicated to advancing electrical and electronic engineering technologies for a wide range of vehicles and related infrastructure, including land, sea, air, and space transportation systems. Established in 1949, VTS has a 76-year history of serving as a global platform for research, development, standardization, and education in vehicle systems and mobility environments, earning worldwide recognition in mobility control and communication.
The Fellowship & Scholarship Awards are granted to graduate students who have demonstrated excellence in research across areas such as automotive technology, mobility, aerospace, wireless communications, and transportation infrastructure. Kim was recognized for his contributions to aircraft and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) control, intelligent air traffic systems, and satellite and aerospace communications, utilizing reinforcement learning and quantum machine learning.
The award will be officially presented on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC) in Chengdu, China.
This achievement highlights the global recognition of the excellence of mobility control and aerospace communication research conducted by Professor Joongheon Kim’s team. In particular, the creativity and originality of the joint research by Kim and Professor Joongheon Kim were highly praised, earning them this prestigious honor.
