Prof. Inkyu Lee of the College of Engineering, Korea University, has been officially elected as a Regular Member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST) for the year 2026, as announced on November 27.

Founded in 1994, KAST is a prestigious private organization established to advance Korea’s science and technology ecosystem. Its members, composed of the nation’s most distinguished researchers, contribute significantly to the development of national science and technology and the strengthening of Korea’s global competitiveness.

Regular membership in KAST is granted through a rigorous selection process that evaluates Korean researchers with more than 20 years of activity in science and technology. Candidates are assessed on ten representative publications—including research achievements from the past five years—based on research excellence, academic and technological impact, and domestic and international contributions.

Prof. Lee has made pioneering contributions to the development of core standard technologies for 4G and 5G mobile communications, including advanced multi-antenna signal processing. His work has played a crucial role in strengthening Korea’s global competitiveness in communications technology.

He has published more than 240 journal articles in leading international venues such as IEEE journals and has actively participated in numerous telecommunication standardization meetings, showcasing Korea’s technological capabilities on the global stage. In September of this year, he was also selected as the Engineering Award recipient at the 70th National Academy of Sciences Awards, in recognition of his long-standing contributions to wireless communication research.

KAST will hold the induction ceremony for newly elected Regular Members on January 22 next year, during which the academy will introduce and honor the research achievements of its new members.
