Professor Jun Heo of Korea University Appointed as New President of the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS)

The Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS) held its general assembly and elected Professor Jun Heo of the School of Electrical Engineering at Korea University as the President for 2025. His one-year term began on January 1, 2025.
Professor Heo is widely recognized as a leading scholar in the field of information and communication technology (ICT), particularly in quantum communications. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Seoul National University, and obtained his Ph.D. in communication theory and channel coding from the University of Southern California (USC). Over the past 30 years, he has contributed extensively to ICT research and served as a key expert in the communications field. His achievements have been honored with several prestigious awards, including the Top 100 Outstanding R&D Projects Award from the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Top 100 Future Technologies Award from the National Academy of Engineering of Korea.
Professor Heo has also played a vital role in shaping national science and technology policy through various leadership positions. These include serving as a member of the Quantum Technology Special Committee under the Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology, Chair of the Quantum Communication Division at the Future Quantum Convergence Forum, member of the Planning Committee for Quantum Communication and Quantum Sensor R&D Programs at the Ministry of Science and ICT, advisor to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), and member of the Quantum Technology Special Committee at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS).
Celebrating its 51st anniversary this year, KICS is Korea’s leading academic society in the field of information and communications. At the same general assembly, Professor In-Kyu Lee of Korea University was elected as Senior Vice President, and Professors Seung-Hoon Hwang (Dongguk University), Young-Chai Ko (Korea University), and Suk Chan Kim (Pusan National University) were elected as Vice Presidents.
