Professor Inkyu Lee of Korea University Receives the 70th National Academy of Sciences Award

The National Academy of Sciences, Republic of Korea (President: Jeong-Bok Lee) announced that it will hold the 70th National Academy of Sciences Award Ceremony on Friday, September 19, at the Academy building, with Prime Minister Minseok Kim, Vice Minister of Education Eun-Ok Choi, Academy members, awardees, and their families in attendance.
The National Academy of Sciences Award is presented annually to scholars who have achieved world-class, outstanding, and original research accomplishments, in recognition of their contributions to advancing academic research in Korea. Since its establishment in 1955, a total of 296 scholars have received the award, making it the oldest and most prestigious academic honor in Korea.
This year’s awardees include one in the Humanities, two in Basic Natural Sciences, and two in Applied Natural Sciences. Among them, Professor Inkyu Lee of Korea University was recognized in the Applied Natural Sciences category for his pioneering contributions to the development of multi-antenna technology, a core element of next-generation mobile communications, which has significantly enhanced the technological competitiveness of Korea’s telecommunications industry.
Each awardee receives a certificate, a medal, and prize money of 100 million KRW.
Prime Minister Minseok Kim congratulated the recipients, praising their outstanding academic achievements in their respective fields. He emphasized that the National Academy of Sciences serves as a cornerstone of Korea’s academic advancement and pledged to further strengthen support for basic research and outstanding talent development.
