Professor Wonjae Shin of the Korea University School of Electrical Engineering has been honored with the Haedong Young Engineer Award from the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS), the nation’s largest academic society in the field of information and communications technology (ICT).
The Haedong Awards were established in 1990 by the Haedong Scientific and Cultural Foundation, founded by the late Jung-Sik Kim, Chairman of Daeduck Electronics, to recognize outstanding researchers in electronics and related fields and to promote academic excellence. Since 2005, the awards have been organized by KICS and presented in three categories: the Haedong Academic Award, the Haedong Technology Award, and the Haedong Young Engineer Award.
Professor Shin received the award in recognition of his remarkable research achievements in next-generation wireless communication systems and satellite communication technologies.
Since joining Korea University in 2023, Professor Shin has published over 80 SCI-indexed journal papers and received several prestigious honors from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), including the IEEE Asia-Pacific Outstanding Young Researcher Award and the IEEE Communications Society Fred W. Ellersick Prize, one of the highest distinctions in the communications field.
“I am deeply honored to receive this award, which I share with my mentors, colleagues, and students who have supported me throughout my research journey,” said Professor Shin. “I will continue to strive for meaningful contributions in the field of 6G satellite communications, helping Korea strengthen its global technological competitiveness in future ICT and communication technologies.”
The award ceremony for the 2024 Haedong Awards will be held on December 5 at Lotte Hotel Seoul.
